Orna Arania

Orna Arania is a highly regarded soloist and choral conductor in her native country of Israel. She has performed extensively with Israel’s leading orchestras and toured around the world with various Israeli ensembles. Ms. Arania came to the United States in 1998 to study for her Masters in Voice and Opera Performance at Northwestern University. After graduating with honors, she is currently pursuing her doctorate in voice at Northwestern. She received full scholarships for both degrees and has studied under the direction of Mignon Dunn, Sherrill Milnes, Karen Brunssen and Elsa Charlston. Since arriving in the United States, she has performed in opera productions, recitals, and oratorio concerts throughout the Chicago area. Her performances include the Soprano solo roles in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, Mass in C Minor, Coronation Mass, and Vesperae Solennes de Confessores, Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise, and Psalm 42, Beethoven’s Mass in C, the requiems of Rutter, Faure, Bruckner, and Mozart, the Magnificats of Bach and Vivaldi, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and many more. Ms. Arania has been a participant in the International Vocal Arts Institute’s Opera programs, taking place in Italy and in Israel, and has won prizes in singing competitions such as NATS, and the Bel Canto Foundation. Since 1993 she has been the recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarships, both in voice and in choral conducting. Ms. Arania has held part time teaching positions at Northwestern University and North Park University and has recently accepted a full time voice teaching position at Northern Illinois University School of Music. |
